At a prestigious media briefing on the impact of 40 years of extreme abortion policies on American culture, Americans United for Life Vice President of External Affairs and Corporate Counsel Jeanneane Maxon noted that the people most hurt by the radical abortion policies of the United States have been women and girls “who have been told that they are inadequate to handle both work and family and must act like men to make it in a man’s world.
The abortion industry has allowed women to be harmed physically, mentally and socially by telling them to deny their true potential and insisting they choose either work or family, because they’ll never succeed at both.”
Maxon made her remarks at the National Press Club as part of an event organized by The Justice Foundation of San Antonio, Texas, along with influential pro-life leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther King’s niece Dr. Alveda King, the National Spokesperson for Silent No More Awareness Campaign and Allan Parker, Attorney and President, of The Justice Foundation. One of the purposes of the news conference was to detail the actual impact of abortion on women, including discussion of more than 5,200 legally admissible testimonies from women of how their abortion hurt them.
As Corporate Counsel for the premier legal team for the pro-life movement, Maxon noted that the facts of abortion are not well-known by most Americans, and made the following remarks:
“Few people know that the United States has some of the most radical abortion laws in the world. The U.S. stands with North Korea, China and Canada as the only four out of 195 nations that allow abortion through all nine months of pregnancy, for any reason – including sex selection – and sometimes with government subsidies. Most nations limit abortion after 20 weeks, in part because late-term abortion procedures can result in much greater harm to women’s health along with the pain that will be caused to the unborn.
Americans United for Life developed cutting-edge model legislation with an abortion limit after 20 weeks that passed in Arizona to protect women’s health along with their unborn children. Abortions lead to sometimes devastating consequences for women and girls, who often don’t learn until it is too late the true consequences of that choice. AUL has been fighting to pass informed consent legislation so that women and girls can make an informed choice about their health, and we have been fighting for parental consent legislation so that abusers who use abortion to cover up their crimes will not further victimize young girls. We’ve also been working to regulate abortion clinics like other surgical facilities so that women and girls won’t die at the hands of profiteers.

“Big Abortion has fought against commonsense limits every step of the way. But it is most ironic that the abortion industry uses anti-women messaging to sell their product – telling women that they just can’t succeed at balancing the demands of work and family, and need abortion to make it in a man’s world. We have gone from a world in which women and girls were told they cannot succeed to a world in which they are told they can’t succeed without abortion. But women do not need abortion to succeed. It is time to allow women to succeed and to start working for a world in which everyone is welcomed in life and protected in law.”
