The Oklahoma tornadoes last week took people’s lives and caused massive destruction that will undoubtedly cost billions to repair. But amid the devastation and destruction was the birth of a miracle baby.

Jill Stanek’s blog has more information:

A 25-year-old mother went into labor as the monster Oklahoma twister approached last Monday.  She said, “I was five centimeters already and having contractions.”

Shayla Taylor was on the second floor of the Moore Medical Center and was not particularly worried about the tornado.  Or at least that was the case until the nurses charged in.

“I was kind of just like, ‘Oh crap,’” she said. “I pull out my phone and pull up the weather app. It says it’s coming down 4th Street in Moore, which is the street that the hospital is on.”

Shayla closed her eyes as the tornado hit Moore.  When she opened them again, the hospital room had all but disappeared.

A group of strangers helped husband Jerome get his wife to an ambulance, who by now was almost fully dilated.  Their son was delivered at an undamaged hospital a few miles away on Monday evening.

The Taylors named their son Braeden Immanuel. “Immanuel means God is with us. I had it picked out for months. And now I know why I did, because God was with us that day.”
