Conservative activist Erick Erickson has Twitter abuzz this afternoon.
After Texas abortion advocate Wendy Davis was exposed as not knowing the details of the Kermit Gosnell case, and after she said women were essentially stupid and “didn’t understand abortion” if they opposed banning late-term abortions, Erickson pulled out a label for Davis:
It is a bit embarrassing that Abortion Barbie doesn’t even have her facts straight on Kermit Gosnell considering abortion is her issue.
— Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 6, 2013
Think of the accessories Abortion Barbie has with her pink sneakers. — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 6, 2013
Erickson’s tweet didn’t go over well with pro-abortion extremists like Media Matters or Amadna Marcotte.
Uh-oh. Media Matters has ordered their trolls out from under the bridge and into my timeline for calling Wendy Davis “Abortion Barbie”. — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 6, 2013
Erick Erickson calls @WendyDavisTexas ‘Abortion Barbie’; silently curses his own Ken doll smooth-down-there-ness https://t.co/hsPtPlCHTz
— Jessica Valenti (@JessicaValenti) August 6, 2013
https://t.co/MoNjWAdhX2 Anti-choice sentiment is so damn intertwined with gross misogyny.
— Amanda Marcotte (@AmandaMarcotte) August 6, 2013
But Erickson defended his choice of words and pro-lifers on Twitter supported him.
The manufactured outrage over the manufactured image of Abortion Barbie is hysterical. — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 6, 2013
People who repeated used ‘Caribou Barbie’ to describe @SarahPalinUSA are offended by my using ‘Abortion Barbie’ for Wendy Davis. — Erick Erickson (@EWErickson) August 6, 2013
Wendy Davis is pure media creation. With polls moving against abortion they want Abortion Barbie to help resell evil.
— John Nolte (@NolteNC) August 6, 2013
You’d never have heard of her RT @NolteNC If it wasn’t 4 her advocating for infanticide I might find Wendy Davis attractive #AbortionBarbie
— Derek Hunter (@derekahunter) August 6, 2013
I have a dumb question: why is “Caribou Barbie” okay for Sarah Palin, but “Abortion Barbie” is not okay for Wendy Davis? Bueller? — Ken Gardner (@kesgardner) August 6, 2013
She’s pretty. She’s dumb as a box of rocks (i.e. didn’t know what Gosnell did). And she parrots the pro-abortion line. = Abortion Barbie. — RB (@RBPundit) August 6, 2013
I probably wouldn’t have said it myself, but Wendy Davis is, in fact, an “Abortion Barbie” and anyone who denies it is a hack.
— RB (@RBPundit) August 6, 2013
“Abortion Barbie” offends me @EWErickson, but only cuz I didn’t think it up first, damn you.
— John Nolte (@NolteNC) August 6, 2013
@EWErickson has taken to calling Wendy Davis “abortion barbie.” Very nice. (Via @lebassett) — Nora Caplan-Bricker (@NCaplanBricker) August 6, 2013
@EWErickson “Abortion Barbie”!! I am SO stealing that one. — German Shepherd (@GermanShepher10) August 6, 2013
Never mind that abortion advocates have used the Barbie line to attack pro-life women:
Especially Barbie Blackburn! Boehner Says Abortion Bill Won’t Make GOP Unpopular With Women @HuffingtonPost https://t.co/5brJQySser
— Vince Teeter (@vinctee) June 19, 2013
CLICK LIKE IF YOU’RE PRO-LIFE!
But it looks like Erickson wasn’t the first to coin the term:
Wilkow just said Wendy Davis = Abortion Barbie LOL!!! @WilkowMajority @TheKingDude @DLoesch
— Republitarian (@Bickle307) July 2, 2013
Pro-abortion Barbie now speaking. Will we hear another justification for killing viable babies? #Stand4Life #txlege

Great piece from @freddoso on Abortion Barbie and the Texas Democrats. https://t.co/SubJaFH0IE
