At more than 1,800 locations throughout the United States, pro-life advocates will join together in the annual Life Chain to peacefully, prayerfully, and quietly hold signs conveying the message “Abortion Kills Children.”
With other messages like “Abortion Hurts Women,” “Pray to End Abortion,” and “Jesus Forgives and Heals,” Life Chain participants have educated millions of passing motorists as they line the streets and sidewalks of cities large and small across America. The goal behind the event, which started in California decades ago, is to gather pro-life people of all faiths to share the message that abortion destroys the lives of unborn children, hurts women and that adoption is a better solution.
“On the first Sunday of October in 1,800 locations across the United States and Canada, tens of thousands of pro-life people will gather beside main streets,” says organizer Sharron Albertson. “They will pray silently and hold professionally-printed signs provided at the site. They will peacefully show solidarity in the Christian community for the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. They will stand in honor of the 55 million lives who have been lost to abortion.”
Does such an event make a difference? Albertson answers a resounding yes.
“Every year young women report deciding not to have an abortion after reading the signs and seeing the people praying,” she told LifeNews. “Students understand that a third of their generation has disappeared and convince their friends not to kill their baby. People become aware of the need to pray for others in crisis situations and step into volunteer pro-life positions.”
LifeChain 2012 participant Elizabeth Victory encouraged pro-life people to get involved.
She said: “It happened today, for the first time in Cleburne’s Life Chain history, a woman stopped to tell us that in 1998, she saw our signs as she ‘drove past right here.’ That made her decide NOT to abort the next morning at her scheduled appointment. Today she has a beautiful 14-year-old daughter! She thanked us for being part of the group of Life Chain witnesses!”
“The 26th National Life Chain is a silent witness of the Christian community standing in honor of 55 million babies whose lives have been lost to abortion,” the organization sponsoring the event says. “Participants hold professionally-printed signs that are provided at each site and pray for human life to be held sacred in our nation.”

Idaho Choose Life hopes pro-life people will take part.
“This prayerful event is an opportunity to stand with others gathering together in over 1800 American cities and reminding our neighbors of the threat posed by abortion. We will plead for the lives of preborn children and urge mothers to understand that there are loving options to aborting their babies,” it says. “Each year we see miracles happen. Don’t miss them.”
