Former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin took Richard Dawkins to task after he created an international controversy with his comments saying parents of unborn children diagnosed with Down syndrome should abort them.
Yesterday, Dawkins doubled down on his controversial comments yesterday suggesting that parents of babies with Down Syndrome should “abort them and try again.” Dawkins said aborting babies with Down syndrome is the “moral and sensible” choice.
Now, Palin has some words for the atheist “bioethicist.”
Palin, who is the mother of a son with Down Syndrome, wrote a note to Dawkins on her Facebook page explaining why she loves her child, named Trig Palin.
“I’d let you meet my son if you promised to open your mind, your eyes, and your heart to a unique kind of absolute beauty,” Palin wrote.
“But, in my request for you to be tolerant, I’d have to warn Trig he must be tolerant, too, because he may superficially look at you as kind of awkward. I’ll make sure he’s polite, though!”
Thousands of people have liked the comments, shared them and shared the story Palin posted concerning Dawkins’ comments.
Palin has dealt with condemnation in the past from people who have made fun of Trig for his Down syndrome.
Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as “retarded” — a comment Barbara Walters defended. And Hustler publisher Larry Flynt called him a “brain -dead vegetable.”
