Anna Richey was sexually abused by her stepfather for many years.
When she was just 12 years old, she became pregnant by him. Silently, she endured his abuse. He hit her and gave her drugs that killed her unborn baby.
Richey shared her story this fall as part of an online video project for CareNet, a pro-life pregnancy resource organization with centers across the United States.
A year after her first pregnancy, her stepfather raped her and she became pregnant again. This time, she told her mother. Immediately, her mother took Anna and her sister away and found help for them.
Richey chose life as a very young teenager. Though difficult, she said her baby girl brought her “more joy than you could imagine.”
When she was experiencing flashbacks, she said her mother brought the baby for her to hold.
“Instead of seeing these horrible things in my mind, I could look down in my arms and I could see this little bitty smiling face and this giggle that would brighten my whole day,” Richey said. “She was my beauty from my ashes, the light that I got from the darkness that I had endured.”

Richey encouraged other sexual assault victims to not lose hope.
“There is a future for you and your child,” Ritchey said. “Hang in there! Every moment is worth it.”
