Pro-life leader Lila Rose recently urged the United Nations to see abortion for what it really is: the intentional killing of an innocent human life.

Rose, the president and founder of Live Action, spoke during the UN Commission on the Status of Women in late March, the Daily Wire reports. She gave a passionate defense of unborn babies’ right to life in answer to questions from Valentine Camano, a UN youth representative from Mexico.

Camano began by asking Rose how countries can begin to talk about abortion, because it is such a sensitive topic.

“In most developing countries — I’m from Mexico — abortion is considered taboo,” Camano said. “How can we engage this sensitive topic? We have to also consider women’s right to choice. It’s considered a right to health, to our own bodies.”

He also linked abortion to health education and women’s rights, but Rose questioned the basis of his assertions.

“You said, ‘What about a woman’s right to choose?’” Rose asked. “And my answer is: To choose what? What are they choosing? What does an abortion do?”

She said phrases like “choice” and “reproductive justice” are used to intentionally mislead people; they are a “mask for abortion.”

“If everybody here agrees, and I think they do, that it is never right to intentionally take an innocent human life, it’s never right to intentionally take an innocent human life,” Rose continued. “And if we know there is a life in the womb, and he or she is innocent, and an abortion intentionally ends her life, then it is never right to commit an abortion.”

Later, she added, “We need to change the way we are looking at this entirely, and not look down on countries that have laws against abortion, but instead look to them.”

She expressed sadness that the United States is not more like Mexico on the abortion issue. Most Mexican states protect unborn babies from abortion, while the U.S. is one of only seven countries in the world that allows elective abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy.

“We don’t even ban sex-selective abortions,” Rose said. “You can kill a girl just because she’s a girl in the United States. You can kill a baby through all nine months in the United States.”
