President Donald Trump announced plans Wednesday to nominate a solidly pro-life lawyer to a federal judgeship in Missouri.
His choice, Sarah E. Pitlyk, would replace U.S. District Judge Catherine Perry in St. Louis, if confirmed by the U.S. Senate, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Perry was appointed by pro-abortion President Bill Clinton and plans to step down in December.
Pitlyk is a strong human rights advocate and defender of religious freedom. According to her biography, she worked on cases involving the custody of a human embryo and the unconstitutional St. Louis ordinance that declared the city to be an “abortion sanctuary.” She also has been involved in the defense of David Daleiden and the Center for Medical Progress and numerous other cases through the Thomas More Society, a leading pro-life legal group.
According to a White House news release, Pitlyk served as a law clerk to Judge Brett Kavanaugh before he was confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court. She earned degrees from Yale Law School, Boston College, Georgetown University and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
Last year, she praised Kavanaugh during his nomination process. Pitlyk said Kavanaugh has an excellent record and perhaps the best record of any of the finalists president Trump was considering for the U.S. Supreme Court at the time.
Pitlyk also has been one of the key legal advocates in the defense of David Daleiden after he exposed Planned Parenthood’s baby body parts trade. She repeatedly has slammed federal courts and the abortion industry for their unjust prosecution of the undercover journalist.

On Thursday, Students for Life offered its congratulations to Pitlyk.
“We are so proud of former Yale Law Students for Life founder Sarah Pitlyk on her nomination to be a federal judge,” the organization wrote on Twitter.
Mainstream news outlets describe Pitlyk as a controversial nominee because of her pro-life, pro-religious liberty record. But most mainstream news outlets did not scrutinize President Barack Obama’s radical pro-abortion judicial appointees in the same way.
“Why are liberal atheist proaborts considered fine for the Federal bench but a #prolife person is ‘controversial?’” Cheryl Sullenger, vice president of Operation Rescue, wrote on Twitter in reaction to reports about Pitlyk earlier this summer. “[The mainstream media’s] biased agenda is showing!”
Pro-life organizations have praised Trump repeatedly for nominating conservative judges to various courts, including Amy Coney Barrett, Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and others.
