Just a day after hundreds of thousands of pro-lifers flooded into the nation’s capital for the March for Life, tens of thousands more gathered on the west coast to urge America to restore unborn babies’ right to life.

The 16th annual Walk for Life brought pro-life advocates together in one of the most liberal, pro-abortion cities in America: San Francisco. According to the National Catholic Register, the crowd largely was comprised of students and families who marched peacefully down Market Street for 2 miles to Embarcadero Plaza.

Several special events took place at the rally before the march. A group of mothers whose unborn babies’ heartbeats were amplified on stage during the 2019 Walk for Life returned to the stage this year with their babies in their arms. The babies’ lives were a tangible testament to the value of every human life, both before and after birth.

Also during the rally, pro-life leader Ron Konopaski received the annual St. Gianna Molla Award for Pro-Life Heroism, according to the report. A leader with 40 Days for Life in San Francisco, the 85-year-old Konopaski was persecuted in 2019 when someone brutally assaulted him outside a city abortion business. The assault was caught on video, and it drew national news attention.

Konopaski encouraged pro-lifers to stand strong together and persevere.

“Imagine if every one of you, when you leave here today, you go home and join with one other person, or more, and you do everything you can for the next year to end abortion,” he said. “Just imagine. We could be here next year celebrating for the end of abortion. We would turn this city upside down.”

During the march, pro-life leaders also announced plans to open a pro-life health clinic in the city later this year, KTVU News reports.

Many of the marchers expressed optimism after President Donald Trump became the first president to attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. a day earlier.

During the east coast march, Trump told the crowd: “We are here for a very simple reason: To defend the right of every child – born and unborn – to fulfill their God given potential. Young people are the heart of the March for Life and it is you who is making it the pro-family, pro-life generation.”

Since Roe v. Wade, more than 61 million unborn babies have been aborted in America. California lawmakers have been working to expand abortions by forcing college campuses to provide them free to students and forcing churches to pay for them through employee health plans.

On Friday, the Trump administration officially warned California that it is violating federal law with the abortion insurance mandate. The administration gave the state 30 days to comply or risk losing its federal funding.
