The national pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List (SBA List) today praised the Trump-Pence administration for taking several pro-life actions in its final days:

  • President Trump has proclaimed January 22, the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, “National Sanctity of Human Life Day.” Separately, he issued an executive order stipulating that Nellie Gray, founder of the March for Life, is to be honored in the National Garden of American Heroes, along with late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, among other luminaries of history.
  • The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has served notice that California must forfeit $200 million in Medicaid funding each quarter the state continues to violate the Weldon Amendment by forcing all insurance carriers to cover abortion on demand. The law permits the state to appeal.
  • The Office of Civil Rights (OCR) at HHS published a proposed rule to protect infants born alive from discrimination on the basis of disability.

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser offered the following comment:

“From the first day to the last, the Trump-Pence administration has prioritized the protection of innocent human life – setting the standard for future pro-life administrations. We are forever grateful to President Trump, Vice President Pence, Secretary Azar, Secretary Pompeo, and all our administration allies for their extraordinary leadership and service to the most vulnerable of our nation.

“There could not be a clearer contrast to pro-abortion radicals like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Xavier Becerra, who favor abortion on demand through birth and would force their fellow Americans to be complicit in abortion. We are committed to defending the unborn from their extreme agenda as we work diligently to win back the House and Senate in 2022.”
