New York Magazine Tells Women How to Kill Their Babies in Abortions

Americans remember a time not too long ago when most people believed in the goal of reducing abortions.

Now, political leaders and mainstream news outlets are doing the opposite, pushing to expand abortions as it appears likely the U.S. Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade this summer. The underlying assumption is that women need to abort their unborn babies to be healthy and free, and, legal or illegal, an abortion is better than having a child.

The latest issue of New York Magazine is just one example.

On Monday, the magazine published its new issue with a bold cover that reads, “This magazine can help you get an abortion.”

Inside, Fox News reports the magazine included several articles with instructions about how to buy abortion drugs from home and how to skirt pro-life laws that likely will go into effect across half the country if Roe goes.

The magazine advertised its abortion issue as a “practical guide” for getting an abortion “today and tomorrow.” Irin Carmon, who wrote the main article, claimed that ending Roe will cause “unimaginable suffering” and promoted her guide as a tool to ease that suffering.

“The legal right to abortion is likely to disappear in half the country in a matter of weeks. Abortion itself, and the need for it, will not, and never has. The question is what it will cost medically, financially — and criminally,” she wrote.

According to Fox News:

The guide includes an interactive map of the U.S., and offers information on abortion clinics and laws by state, as well as the stories of women speaking out in favor of the right to choose.

… [Carmon argued] the good news is that in today’s world, an abortion “outside the blessing of the law” is no longer as dangerous or as disproportionate in its impact on minority women.

“Modern pharma and the old-fashioned USPS now enable an early pregnancy to end safely at home — that is, if you can evade surveillance and law enforcement, which have already criminalized people, mostly women of color, for their pregnancy outcomes, even where abortion is technically legal,” Carmon wrote.

Carmon is wrong. While the pro-life movement is working to pass laws that protect unborn babies and increase support for pregnant and parenting families in anticipation of Roe being overturned, it also has been clear that pro-lifers oppose punishing women. Earlier this month, 70 pro-life leaders released a joint letter saying the pro-life movement never has and never will support punishing mothers.

What’s more, the abortion drugs that her article promotes are not as safe as abortion activists claim. They are, however, a growing problem as pro-lifers work to protect mothers and unborn babies from abortion. Pro-abortion groups are promoting mail-order abortion drugs as a means to abort unborn babies in states that ban abortions, but they are putting lives at risk in doing so. The drugs have been linked to dozens of mothers’ deaths and thousands of serious complications as well as millions of unborn babies’ deaths. Reports of abusers ordering the drugs to force pregnant women to take them also have been increasing.

Promoting abortions, no matter how safe for the mother, always is dangerous because the purpose of an abortion is to kill an unborn baby. Those who are doing it are not truly helping women either.

While some mothers do abort their unborn babies for purely selfish reasons, most turn to abortion in desperation because of difficult circumstances. These women do not need or want abortions but they often feel like aborting their unborn baby is their only option. And sometimes women and girls are pressured or forced into it by a partner, parent or abuser.

Pregnant mothers need support, not more pressure to have abortions. It used to be that most Americans in power, including “pro-choice” politicians and news outlets, agreed that women should be encouraged and empowered to have their babies and that abortions should be rare. Now, they are promoting abortion as the best option, lying to women about the trauma and risks and keeping them in the dark about pregnancy and parenting support for them and their babies.

Fortunately, there are places mothers can turn to for help. Pro-life advocates and ministries run thousands of charities across the United States to help mothers escape poverty and abuse while affirming the value of their unborn child.

There are approximately 3,000 pregnancy centers alone, not including other organizations that provide additional help to mothers and babies in need. Research by the Charlotte Lozier Institute found these centers served about 2 million people in 2019, providing more than 730,000 pregnancy tests, nearly half a million ultrasounds, 1.3 million packs of diapers and more than 2 million baby outfits, all for free.

Mothers deserve to know the truth that aborting an unborn baby is the worst choice they can make in a desperate situation and that there is support for them and their babies. Pregnancy centers with Heartbeat International and CareNetCatholic Charities and Human CoalitionLet Them LiveProLove Ministries and so many other organizations are working every day to help families so that no mother ever feels she needs to abort her unborn baby to survive.
