London, England (LifeNews.com) -- Pro-life advocates in England are upset that the Sky Real Lives channel will televise a man committing suicide tonight. The program features footage of 59-year-old Craig Ewert taking his life at a euthanasia clinic in Switzerland and official have said Ewerts family will not face charges for helping him.

Ewert had motor neurone disease, known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's syndrome in the United States.

Ewert's suicide at the Dignitas clinic was filmed for a documentary called Right To Die - The Suicide Tourist that will be shown on the Sky channel Wednesday night.

The footage shows him putting his ventilator on a timer, taking a lethal cocktail and dying minutes later.

Anthony Ozimic of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children told LifeNews.com, "Focusing on one case will have a disproportionate effect on the debate on assisted suicide, skewing viewer's perceptions."

Ozimic said Sky should focus instead on the kinds of help and care available for patients like Ewert.

"Many people, including patients themselves, don't know that palliative care is highly successful in alleviating the symptoms of motor neurone disease. Craig Ewert's fears about his quality of life and the effect on his family could have been properly addressed with correct medical advice and full personal support," he said.

"We fear the documentary will obscure the broader issues of how allowing assisted suicide devalues human life and endangers the vulnerable," he added.

Meanwhile, the Pro-Life Alliance warned that people could imitate what they saw and asked in a statement, "What kind of effect do they imagine [the programme] is going to have on a depressive?"

Dominica Roberts of the Pro-Life Alliance said: "It is both sad and dangerous to show this kind of thing on the television."

This will be the first occasion on which a suicide has been shown on British television.
