Wichita,
KS (LifeNews.com) -- The condemnation of the shooting death of
late-term abortion practitioner George Tiller from the pro-life community
in the United States has
been unanimous. Leading pro-life groups in England and New Zealand
are joining their colleagues and denouncing the Sunday shooting that
resulted in Tiller's death.
Ken Orr, a spokesman for Right to Life New Zealand, told LifeNews.com his group joins with the international pro-life movement "in condemning as an unspeakable and evil act the murder of late term abortionist George Tiller."
"The international pro-life movement is opposed to violence. It is opposed to violence against unborn children and it is opposed to violence against abortionists and their property," Orr explained.
"The pro-life movement upholds the right to life of every human being from conception to natural death. The senseless and cowardly murder of George Tiller was a violation of his right to life," he opined.
Orr said the pro-life movement worldwide relies on "peaceful and lawful means" and said the "violence against unborn children will not be stopped by exercising violence against abortionists."
Orr also noted that the alleged gunman, 51-year-old militia member Scott Roeder, "has a criminal record and is not a member of any mainstream pro-life organization."
"It is pleasing that the alleged perpetrator of this heinous crime has been apprehended and will now be brought to justice," he concluded. "Right to Lifes prayer is for the mercy of God for the soul of George Tiller and for comfort for his grieving family."
Meanwhile, John Smeaton, the head of the British-based pro-life group the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children, also weighed in against the shooting.
"Although the motivation behind the killing of Dr Tiller has yet to be established, SPUC, in common with other pro-life groups, condemns his killing as a crime against life," he said.
"SPUC
has always condemned violence, whether against abortionists or unborn
babies. Our sympathy goes to Dr Tiller's family," he added.
