Second Catholic School, King's College, Upsets Pro-Lifers by Hosting Hillary Clinton

Willkes Barre, PA (LifeNews.com) -- Another Catholic university is coming under fire from pro-life advocates for hosting a speech by pro-abortion Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton today. King's College in Wilkes-Barre joins the Pennsylvania-based Mercyhurst College in hosting a Clinton rally as she tours the state looking for votes.

Betty Caffrey, president of the Wyoming Valley Chapter for Pennsylvanians for Human Life, says she's very upset King's College will give a platform to a candidate whose extreme abortion views that run counter to Catholic teaching.

“It’s an insult to the Catholics,” she told the Times-Tribune newspaper. “She doesn't hide that she’s pro-abortion. She makes it well known.”

King’s College spokesman John McAndrew said in a statement LifeNews.com obtained that hosting Clinton's event doesn't mean the school endorses her campaign or her pro-abortion views.

“Rather, the college believes it is within its mission academically, socially and spiritually to allow its students and the community the opportunity to hear from the presidential candidates and reflect upon and consider the issues,” he said.

"By making its facilities available to the candidates, King's is not endorsing the policies of any one or more of the candidates," he added.

McAndrew said the college opens itself to candidates of both political parties.

Caffrey told the newspaper her group doesn't plan to protest the event but has purchased a full-page advertisement in The Citizens’ Voice newspaper to make it clear abortion is wrong.

Clinton's event is featured on the front page of the college's web site.
