Abortion activists don’t like politicians who try to hold the abortion industry accountable for its actions, which probably is why they have made U.S. Rep. Marsha Blackburn a key target.
Blackburn is leading the Congressional investigation of Planned Parenthood and other groups involved in the trafficking of aborted baby body parts. She also is up for re-election in November.
The radical pro-abortion group NARAL is attacking Blackburn in her home state of Tennessee. The Tennessean reports the pro-abortion group bought a series of ads online and a traveling billboard claiming that the pro-life Congresswoman does not share the same priorities as her constituents.
James Owens, state communications director for NARAL, said they eventually hope to place their traveling billboard outside Blackburn’s office.
Owens admitted that Tennessee is a challenging state for his pro-abortion group because most people are conservative. However, he said they have strategies that they hope will eventually convince people to support abortion.
Motivated by the abortion industry’s victory at the U.S. Supreme Court this summer, Owens said NARAL decided to try expanding its mission into pro-life states and use Tennessee as its first test market. Owens said the Supreme Court case, which struck down a pro-life Texas law that protected thousands of babies and moms by closing abortion facilities that could not meet basic health and safety standards, was one of the most important since Roe v. Wade.

The activists have been on the ground in Tennessee since June. They have been going door to door to sign up new NARAL members, buying ads and billboards to spread the pro-choice message and attending concerts, fairs, festivals and other cultural events to reach other people who favor reproductive rights.
Although the campaign is statewide, most of its resources are focused on Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga, Clarksville and Murfreesboro. …
The new ruling provided pro-choice supporters with an opportunity to go on the offensive, he said. Instead of just defending reproductive rights, groups are working to expand them in areas that traditionally haven’t been seen as friendly territory.
Blackburn responded by describing NARAL as “anti-life extremists.” NARAL’s positions are radical and out of touch with most Americans’ views on abortion. The group openly attacks pro-life pregnancy centers that offer pregnant women another choice, and fights against common-sense abortion regulations, including parental notification laws for underage girls, informed consent and late-term abortion bans.
“They will soon learn that these Tennesseans are individuals who value life and work to protect life at all stages,” Blackburn told the newspaper. “I would hope they will change their position and work with me to protect expectant mothers and unborn babies.”
Blackburn has become a strong pro-life leader in the nation. Under her leadership, the Select Panel on Infant Lives has uncovered evidence of serious wrong-doings, including the buying and selling of aborted babies’ brains, patient privacy violations and more.
Despite pro-abortion Democrats’ repeated attempts to dismantle the panel, Blackburn has persisted in the effort to discover the truth about the goings-on inside the abortion industry. The Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives formed after a series of undercover videos revealed Planned Parenthood selling aborted babies’ body parts, potentially in violation of the law. Since then, the panel has uncovered a growing list of evidence that abortion facilities have violated federal laws.
Blackburn is predicted to win re-election in the fall, according to the report.
