Planned Parenthood’s new CEO admitted that abortions are its “core mission” Tuesday in a surprisingly honest tweet.
For decades, the abortion chain hid its life-destroying work behind rhetoric about health care and women’s rights. It repeated the debunked statistic that abortions are only 3 percent of what it does. It touted cancer screenings, birth control, STD tests – anything but the “a” word – in public comments about its work and taxpayer funding.
“For years, it has guarded the 3 percent figure jealously, and a complicit press has reprinted it uncritically. Its former president, Cecile Richards, repeated it during congressional testimony. Journalists at CNN, Politico, and the New York Times publish it without qualification. It’s repeated so often, it has become an ironclad lie,” Philip Wegmann wrote at the Washington Examiner.
Planned Parenthood’s new CEO Leana Wen initially seemed to follow in this path. In recent interviews, she rarely brought up abortion, instead using the term “health care” – an all-encompassing term that she used to include abortion without actually saying it.
That misleading rhetoric apparently fooled the liberal news outlet BuzzFeed. This week, it ran a headline claiming Wen “wants to focus on non-abortion healthcare.”
Wen corrected Buzz Feed on Tuesday. She said the headline “completely misconstrued” her vision for Planned Parenthood. Then, she followed up with exactly what her primary mission is: expanding Planned Parenthood’s abortion empire.

“First, our core mission is providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion and reproductive health care,” Wen wrote on Twitter.
First, our core mission is providing, protecting and expanding access to abortion and reproductive health care. We will never back down from that fight – it’s a fundamental human right and women’s lives are at stake.

Planned Parenthood already is the largest abortion chain in America, aborting about one third of all unborn babies in the U.S. Its most recent annual report listed 321,384 abortions. It also reported reaping in about half a billion tax dollars from hardworking Americans.
Perhaps it’s those tax dollars that Wen was thinking of when she tweeted her admission. Now that pro-abortion Democrats have control of the U.S. House and some state legislatures, Wen may feel safe admitting the truth without fear of losing more taxpayer funding. Pro-abortion House Democrats already have made funding Planned Parenthood a priority by restoring the taxpayer funding that President Donald Trump cut in their bill to end the government shutdown.
Wen’s comment even could be an experiment by Planned Parenthood’s massive communications team to see how well the horrendous truth will go over with Americans. In an era of “Shout Your Abortions” and abortion on demand being celebrated by political leaders like Hillary Clinton and celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, abortion activists have become increasingly bold in their rhetoric about “normalizing” the killing of unborn babies.
No matter what the reason, Wen’s comment substantiates the pro-life movement, which has been saying for years that abortion is Planned Parenthood’s No. 1 mission.
