Police in Texas accused a young mother of having very little regard for the life of her young child.
The Daily Mail reports Samantha Vaughan, 26, allegedly left her 1-year-old child in a running, unlocked vehicle while she drank shots at a bar. Then, after she was arrested, she smiled broadly for her police mugshot.
The alleged child abandonment occurred at about 2 a.m. Sunday at the TrackSide nightclub in Copperas Cove, Texas, according to the report.
Fox 44 reports police said the young child was asleep and unharmed when they found her in the back seat of the vehicle. A few minutes later, they found Vaughan inside the bar, according to the police report.
Testing later showed that Vaughan had a blood alcohol level of 0.148, the report states.
Police said she told them she had two shots, and then she shouted a racial slur as they arrested her. Police said she resisted arrest by throwing herself to the ground, and, after inside the police car, she “smashed her forehead” on a metal pole twice.

She also allegedly threatened a police officer and their family, according to police.

Court records show Vaughan claimed to have gone into the bar to use the bathroom after picking her husband up from the nightclub.
The affidavit says when she found her husband she ‘sat with him while she consumed the two shots’.
She is charged with abandoning/endangering a child with intent to return, resisting arrest and terroristic threats to a public servant.
