Pope Benedict Criticizes Joe Biden for Supporting Abortion: “He’s in Continuity With” Democrats

Retired Pope Benedict XVI brought up the conflict between President Joe Biden’s claims of faith and his support for radical pro-abortion policies in a new interview Monday.

Benedict, who is 93, retired as head of the Catholic Church in 2013. He recently spoke with the Italian news outlet Corriere della Sera about a number of issues, including Biden, according to Breitbart.

Biden describes himself as a devout Catholic, but he also supports radical pro-abortion and anti-religious freedom policies that contradict his faith. This has caused controversy among Catholics, especially Catholic leaders in America, about whether Biden should be allowed to receive communion if he remains unrepentant.

Benedict brought up this conflict when asked about the Democrat president.

According to Breitbart:

Asked his impression of Joe Biden, only the second Catholic U.S. president after John F. Kennedy, Benedict expressed some hesitation.

“It’s true, he’s Catholic and observant and personally he is against abortion,” he said. “But as president, he tends to present himself in continuity with the line of the Democratic Party, and on gender politics we have not yet fully understood what his position is.”

Biden has demonstrated that his allegiance is to the Democratic Party and the billion-dollar abortion industry, and not to Americans or his faith.

During a September presidential debate, Biden declared: “I am the Democratic Party, right now. The platform of the Democratic Party is what I, in fact, approved of.”

That platform is extreme and out of touch with most Americans. It supports abortions without limits and calls for forcing taxpayers to fund them – positions that a strong majority of Americans oppose, including many Democrats.

And while some say Biden remains personally pro-life, his actions and statements suggest otherwise. Last April, for example, he called abortions, the killing of unborn babies, an “essential medical service” during the coronavirus pandemic. He also abandoned his support of the Hyde Amendment and now wants to force taxpayers to pay for elective abortions, something polls consistently show Americans oppose.

Just two days after taking office, Biden celebrated the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that led to the unnecessary killing of more than 62 million unborn babies in abortions.

Days later, Biden got rid of the Mexico City Policy and restored tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to the International Planned Parenthood Federation, which kills babies in abortions around the world and lobbies to legalize abortions in pro-life countries. Pro-life leaders warned that the money will be used to pressure countries in Africa and South America to legalize the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

He also has chosen radical pro-abortion politicians to help lead his administration. California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, Biden’s nominee for health secretary, is fighting in court against a charity of nuns who serve the poor and elderly. He also defended a law that would have forced pro-life pregnancy centers to advertise abortions, and he is prosecuting the undercover journalists who exposed Planned Parenthood’s aborted baby body parts trade.

Biden also is pressuring Congress to pass the Equality Act, which would strip away conscience protections for pro-life medical workers and create a “right” to demand an abortion.
