Police arrested a Pensacola, Florida woman last week after she hit a pro-life advocate in the face with a sign outside the only abortion facility in the city.
The report adds to the growing wave of assaults, threats, vandalism and other acts targeting pro-life advocates in recent years.
A video of the latest incident posted on the WEAR-TV 3 website shows a group of pro-life advocates sitting peacefully along the sidewalk near a busy road, displaying signs that showed babies who were victims of abortion; one read “Abortion is a sin.”
In the video, a woman can be seen approaching the group from behind, quickly grabbing one of their signs and hitting a pro-life man with it, knocking his cell phone out of his hand. The man urges someone to call 911, and the woman walks away quickly, shouting, “I hate you!” as she leaves.

Pensacola Police later identified the woman in the video as Jennifer Samala, 50, of Pensacola. Police said they arrested her and charged her with battery, according to the report.
According to police, the incident occurred Dec. 11 near American Family Planning Pensacola, the only abortion facility in the city. Police said Samala stopped her vehicle, walked up to the man, grabbed the sign and hit him in the face with it, WEAR reports.
Thomas Messe, who identified himself as the man who was hit, told the local news that he and other pro-lifers gather on the sidewalk near the abortion facility every Saturday.
“We we minding our own business here with our protest. She abruptly approaches us very fast — swearing, cursing,” Messe said. “I wasn’t hurt, but it was pretty scary. And luckily after that she ran away.”
Vandalism, assaults and other attacks on pro-life advocates have become increasingly common. In October, the pro-life group Tiny Heartbeat Ministries said an individual destroyed their display with a knife, nearly slashing a pro-life advocate in the process, at Western Washington University. A Texas pro-life organization has received multiple bomb threats in the past three months. Several pro-life student displays on college campuses, pro-life billboards and Catholic Churches also were vandalized this fall.
