Joe Biden Uses Our Tax Dollars to Fund UN Agency Killing Babies in Abortions

Joe Biden has aggressively promoted and enabled abortion for an entire year both across the country and around the world.

One of the ways in which Biden is promoting abortion worldwide is something most people don’t know about. He made the decision earlier this year to give taxpayer funds to a UN agency that promotes abortions across the globe. Not only does this agency promote abortion it also manufactures drugs and devices that are used to kill babies in abortions.

As CFAM details:

Under former U.S. president Donald Trump, UNFPA issued statements urging the U.S. not to withhold its funding, claiming it did not promote abortion.  Despite these claims, UNFPA continued to aggressively promote “sexual and reproductive health and rights” (SRHR), which is understood by its proponents to include abortion.

Since the inauguration of President Joe Biden, UNFPA’s funding has been restored, and new U.S. funding has been committed to UNFPA Supplies, a subset of UNFPA that procures and distributes contraceptives, maternal health commodities, and drugs and devices used to perform abortions.

In what ways is the Biden-funded UN agency promoting abortion?

On Human Rights Day, December 10, UNFPA hosted a webinar on “defending our human right to sexual and reproductive health.”  The moderator, Krishanti Dharmaraj of the Center for Women’s Global Leadership at Rutgers University, began with a statement that “the systemic and structural discrimination that women face, such as restriction on abortion or maternal mortality due to negligence, is femicide.”

Other panelists repeatedly referred to abortion activists as “human rights defenders.”  This too is an area in which UNFPA has sharply diverged from global consensus.  The UN General Assembly adopted an important declaration on human rights defenders in 1998.  Its official title refers to the protection of “universally recognized human rights and fundamental freedoms,” which cannot be said to apply to a right to abortion or the redefinition of gender or the family as promoted by UNFPA and the UN’s human rights expert bodies.

In terms of promoting abortion and its advocates, UNFPA has record of consistency, notwithstanding the occasional posture of coyness when attempting to elicit donations from the U.S. under Republican administrations. With Biden in office, nothing is keeping UNFPA from boldly showing its colors.

Biden’s funding of abortions and abortion promotion with our taxpayer dollars is a stark contrast to President Donald Trump who quickly defended the UN agency to ensure that American tax dollars were not involved in destroying the lives of unborn children. Trump’s administration defunded the agency because of its support for China’s oppressive population control measures, which include forced abortions and “illegal” third children.

Susan B. Anthony List president Marjorie Dannenfelser slammed Biden’s plan, saying it would force Americans to support “human rights abuses around the world.”

“From day one, President Biden and his administration have sought to make good on his campaign promises to the abortion lobby,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “These assaults on innocent life and the very foundations of our country are deeply unpopular and pro-abortion Democrats pursue them at their own political peril.”

She pointed to a recent Marist poll that found strong public opposition to taxpayer-funded abortions in the U.S. and abroad. According to the poll, 77 percent of Americans oppose using tax dollars to promote abortion overseas, and 58 percent oppose using tax dollars to fund abortions in the United States.

“Under his radical cabinet appointees, funding increases will translate to a payday for abortion giants like Planned Parenthood and [British-based abortion chain] Marie Stopes International, and greater complicity in human rights abuses around the world,” Dannenfelser continued. “We strongly urge our congressional allies to reject any budget that omits these vital protections.”

Starting 2017, the Trump administration cut off funding to UNFPA, because the agency “partners on family planning activities with the Chinese government agency responsible for … coercive policies,” such as forced abortions and forced sterilizations.

“This determination was made based on the fact that China’s family planning policies still involve the use of coercive abortion and involuntary sterilization, and UNFPA partners on family planning activities with the Chinese government agency responsible for these coercive policies,” the state department said at the time.

The Trump administration said it redirected the funds – at least $32.5 million in 2017 alone – to the U.S. Agency for International Development, which provides medical care to families across the world.

UNFPA denies its involvement in forced and coerced abortions and sterilizations in China. In a statement previously, the UN agency said it “promotes the human rights of individuals and couples to make their own decisions, free of coercion or discrimination.”

Previous pro-life presidents also cut off funding to the UN agency, while pro-abortion presidents, including Barack Obama, restored the funding.

Previously, Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights Without Frontiers, a human rights group that works to end forced and coerced abortions and sterilizations in China, explained the problems with UNFPA.

“UNFPA has been found to be complicit with coercive population control in China in the past, and I have no doubt that any unbiased investigation would find them complicit again. I have long advocated for the defunding of UNFPA” by the U.S., she said.

Littlejohn said she also would like to see a new investigation of UNFPA’s work in China. She referred to a 2002 investigation by former Secretary of State Colin Powell that found UNFPA was complicit with Chinese officials in coercive methods of family planning.

“I believe that any independent, unbiased investigation into UNFPA’s activities in China will lead to the inescapable conclusion that they are complicit with China’s population control practices, which include forced abortion and involuntary sterilization,” she continued. “To the extent that the global community is funding the UNFPA, the blood of Chinese women and babies is on our hands.”
