Virginia Democrats got so much criticism over a resolution they proposed to thank abortionists for killing babies that they pulled it.
The City Council of Alexandria, Virginia planed to adopt a pro-abortion proclamation next week to thank abortion workers for their “courage, compassion and care” while aborting unborn babies. The March 8 council meeting agenda included a presentation of a “proclamation recognizing Abortion Provider Appreciation Day” on March 10.
Proposed by Mayor Justin M. Wilson, the proclamation encouraged Alexandria residents to “celebrate the courage, compassion, and the high-quality care that abortion providers and clinic staff provide.” Wilson’s plan was to celebrate people who make money killing unborn babies and it immediately drew criticism from pro-life and religious leaders.
“Violence of every kind must be condemned – and abortion is a direct, violent attack on human life,” Alexandria Catholic Bishop Michael Burbidge responded in a statement. “Proposing a celebration of abortion and an ‘appreciation day’ for those who destroy lives defies comprehension.”
Burbidge urged the city leaders to instead celebrate mothers and children as well as individuals who work to safe and care for human life.

“I urge Alexandria residents to express their opposition to this proclamation, and I continue to call upon all in our diocese to proclaim the Gospel of Life by word and example,” the bishop said.
Mollie Hemingway, editor in chief of The Federalist and an Alexandria resident, also expressed outrage at the proposal.
“My Democrat mayor and city council are celebrating people who kill babies. Yes, really. This is demonic,” Hemingway wrote on Twitter.
Mayor Wilson got so much criticism for the proposal that he pulled it from consideration.
“This proclamation has now been pulled from the agenda on Tuesday at my request,” Mayor Justin Wilson said in an email obtained by The Daily Wire Friday afternoon.
Republican Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin weighed in on the matter Friday to The Daily Wire, saying that he was “saddened and disappointed” that the proclamation had been considered.
“The far left liberals continue to dominate the Democrat party and remind everyone that they are completely out of touch with Virginia values,” the governor said.
For the past several years, the billion-dollar abortion industry has usurped March 10 as a day to thank abortionists and their staff for aborting unborn babies every day across the U.S. They use the day to lavish praise on abortionists, most of whom are paid huge salaries to abort babies in the womb, calling them “superheroes” and their work “sacred,” and urged others to do the same.
