Leading pro-life groups today are celebrating the possible end of Roe v. Wade after a leaked first draft of a Supreme Court opinion overturning Roe surfaced last night.

As LifeNews reported, in a monumental decision that could finally end an era of abortion on demand and 63 million babies killed in abortions, the Supreme Court has reportedly issued a decision overturning Roe v. Wade. This is according to a release of a draft of the decision.

“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the draft opinion of the court dated February 10.

According to Politico the decision is not final and could change but the leaked draft of the opinion has four justices — Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett — joined Alito while three — Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan — dissented.

“We hold that Roe and Casey must be overruled,” the opinion reportedly continued. “It is time to heed the Constitution and return the issue of abortion to the people’s elected representatives.”

Chief Justice John Roberts has yet to cast his vote and it is unknown which side he will vote with, Politico reported.

Today, pro-life advocates are celebrating the possibility that Roe v. Wade and over 63 million aboritons might finally be overturned.

“We remain optimistic that the Supreme Court will reverse Roe in the Dobbs case,” Father Frank Pavone of Priests for Life told LifeNews. “But Supreme Court decisions are not communicated by leaks, especially those intended to intimidate the Justices. This is a moment when we should pray that the Justices who are ready to reverse Roe will stay the course and not be distracted or deterred. The decision needs to be based on the Constitution, not public pressure or confusion.”

SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser added: “If the draft opinion made public tonight is the final opinion of the court, we wholeheartedly applaud the decision. The American people have the right to act through their elected officials to debate and enact laws that protect unborn children and honor women. If Roe is indeed overturned, our job will be to build consensus for the strongest protections possible for unborn children and women in every legislature.”

“We also recognize the need for the pro-life movement to continue its existing work to support pregnant women and children in need. There are thousands of pro-life pregnancy centers and maternity homes nationwide and an ever-growing pro-life safety net. The pro-life movement will continue to grow to meet the needs of these women and their families, walking and planning with them to love and serve both mother and child,” she told LifeNews.

Even if roe is reversed, the battle shifts to a 50 state campaign to ensure babies are protected from abortions in all states.

As Sean Caney of 40 Days for Life said, “The report that the Supreme Court has the votes to overturn Roe v. Wade means the real work of changing hearts and minds is about to begin!”

“The Supreme Court appears to be correcting its error of dehumanizing a segment of our population for the second time in U.S. history. While tonight’s Politico story leaking news that the Court will overturn Roe v. Wade is unprecedented, the decision to overturn Roe and send abortion back to the states was expected,” he added.

Neither women nor any other American voted on abortion. The legalization of abortion was mandated by an all-male Supreme Court in 1973…and in 2022 is supported by those who are still following the science from 1973.

The unprecedented leak appears to be an attempt to sway the Court–a dark day for democracy. But when the Supreme Court announces the overturning of Roe, 40 Days for Life will be ready. We have been preparing for this moment for years. As we work alongside pregnancy resource centers at the grassroots level, no network of pro-life organizations is better equipped to change hearts and minds; close abortion facilities in blue states; and offer alternatives to abortion than our 40-day campaigns and 365-day campaigns in 1,000 cities.

This is an exciting time in America–and one that will set the tone for the world–but it is also when the real work begins. For months, mayors and governors have declared their cities and states as “Abortion Safe Havens” once Roe is overturned. Politically, it will be nearly impossible to make abortion illegal in these states. But 45% of the 103 U.S. abortion facilities to close following a 40 Days for Life campaign were in states where abortion will remain legal. With God, we can completely end abortion in America.

When this Supreme Court decision is finalized, the battle for what is truly at stake will be front and center: the ultimate battle of hearts, minds, and souls who feel their only option is to have an abortion or work in the abortion industry.

We are ready to get to work in a post-Roe America and lead the world to respect the most vulnerable and beautiful among us.

“We don’t know whether rumors of the end of Roe are accurate yet, but we know that ending Roe is the right decision, returning the issue to “We The People” from a few judges with an agenda,” said Kristan Hawkins of Students for Life of America. “You won’t find “abortion” written in invisible ink in the Constitution undiscovered until 7 men saw it in 1973. Ending preborn human life is and has always been a judicial error.”
