Nancy Pelosi and 30 “Catholic” Democrats Sign Letter to Support Killing Babies in Abortions

Perverting the teachings of the Catholic Church, 30 U.S. House Democrats claimed their Catholic faith compels them to support killing unborn babies in abortions.

In a June 24 statement marking the first anniversary of the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling, U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Connecticut, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other supposedly Catholic lawmakers condemned the life-saving Supreme Court decision, according to the Catholic News Agency.

“One year ago, the United States Supreme Court — including five Justices who are or were raised Catholic … stripped women of their right to abortion and escalated an ongoing reproductive health care crisis in this country,” the House Democrats began. Later, they continued, “The fundamental tenets of our Catholic faith — social justice, conscience, and religious freedom — compel us to defend a woman’s right to access abortion.”

The lawmakers claimed to be devout Catholics who support “the dignity of every human being” and “protecting the least among us,” but they condemned the pro-life laws that do exactly that.

“Our faith unfailingly promotes the common good, prioritizes the dignity of every human being and highlights the need to provide a collective safety net to our most vulnerable,” they said. However, “bans and restrictions on abortion disproportionately harm those who already endure poverty, discrimination and racism.”

Contrary to their claims, pro-life laws save lives. Researchers estimate about 25,000 unborn babies have been saved from abortion since the Dobbs decision, and pro-life advocates ensure pregnant mothers’ lives are protected under the law, too.

In contrast, Pelosi and most Democrats in Congress support legislation to legalize killing unborn babies for any reason up to birth nationwide and force taxpayers to fund their deaths. One bill, nicknamed the Abortion Without Limits Up to Birth Act, would erase basically all abortion restrictions in the U.S., including parental consent for minors, informed consent and bans on late-term abortions.

They claimed pro-abortion laws align with their beliefs “as Catholics” that “all individuals are free to make their own personal decisions about their bodies, families and futures.”

“We are committed to making real the basic principles at the heart of Catholic social teaching: helping the poor, disadvantaged, and the oppressed; protecting the least among us; and ensuring that all Americans of every faith are given meaningful opportunities to share in the blessings of this great country,” the Democrat lawmakers said.

They even quoted the late Pope John Paul II’s apostolic exhortation “Christifideles Laici” in an attempt to justify their support for killing unborn babies in abortions.

“As Catholic Democrats who embrace the vocation and mission of the laity as expressed by the late Pope John Paul II in his apostolic exhortation Christifideles Laici, we believe that the Church is the ‘people of God,’ called to be a moral force in the broadest sense,” they said.

Catholic Church teachings are clear about abortion, euthanasia and other acts that destroy human life: They are evil. The church teaches that every human life is valuable from conception to natural death because each is made in the image of God.

Across the world, Catholics are a strong part of the pro-life movement, speaking out about the sanctity of life, praying at abortion facilities, running charities that help families in need and advocating for public policy that affirms the dignity of every human being, including unborn babies.

However, some supposedly Catholic politicians have tried to pervert their faith’s teachings to justify their pro-abortion views.

Pelosi, the former U.S. House Speaker and a California congresswoman, is among them. For her obstinance, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone recently began denying communion to the Democrat leader “to help her understand the grave evil she is perpetrating, the scandal she is causing, and the danger to her own soul she is risking…”

Others have denied communion to President Joe Biden and other pro-abortion politicians, but U.S. Catholic bishops are divided on the matter and some continue to welcome and offer communion to pro-abortion politicians who refuse to repent.
