Ignoring women’s needs and their unborn babies’ lives, Democrat governors met Monday to discuss ways to further expand abortions.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom formed the new Reproductive Freedom Alliance with 20 other Democrat governors earlier this year to “build a firewall for reproductive freedom in the wake of Roe v. Wade being overturned.” Mainly, their focus has been on killing unborn babies in elective abortions.
The governors met for the first time Monday in Los Angeles where they discussed how to expand elective abortions even more in their states and help women in pro-life states travel to abort their unborn babies, according to the Washington Times.
Those in attendance included Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek who just signed a bill making it easier for young girls to have abortions – or be coerced by an abuser – without their parents’ knowledge. Kotek bragged about the widely-opposed legislation, describing it as progress for her state.

“We made strides again this year to protect abortion patients and providers, expand access to gender-affirming care, and secure access to essential medication despite baseless lawsuits that put politics above science,” Kotek said in a statement. “Even Oregon is not immune from the attacks on health care rights we are seeing in states across the country.”
Another member of the alliance, Maine Gov. Janet Mills, also signed an unpopular pro-abortion bill to legalize late-term abortions on viable unborn babies this summer.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul touted her pro-abortion actions as well, including a new $30 million fund to help abortion facilities expand.
“Together with my fellow pro-choice governors, I’m committed to doing everything in my power to ensure women across America have improved access to safe, legal abortion care,” Hochul said Monday.
During the meeting, the governors said they listened to abortion providers’ challenges, and their senior staff members plan to meet later this week to discuss further pro-abortion actions that their states can take.
The alliance includes Democrat governors from blue states as well as swing states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and North Carolina. Gov. Lou Leon Guerrero of Guam, a U.S. territory, also is a member.
Three Democrat governors are not members of the alliance: Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, who is pro-life; pro-abortion Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear; and pro-abortion Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly.
The California Wellness Foundation and the Rosenberg Foundation are funding the alliance, according to the California governor’s office.
Since the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling, Democrat leaders have spent massive amounts of time and money to keep killing unborn babies in elective abortions. Many are using tax dollars to directly fund abortions, abortion travel, scholarships for medical students to become abortionists, security for abortion facilities and more.
In doing so, they are neglecting the real needs of pregnant mothers, most of whom have abortions because they struggle to find support. A new study published in the journal Cureus found two-thirds of women seeking abortions would have chosen life if they had better support. Another study by pro-abortion researchers at the University of California found nearly all women (96 percent) who wanted abortions but did not get them later were glad they had their children.
Abortions are not needed socially or medically. Tens of thousands of doctors confirm that killing unborn babies is not medical care, and every pregnancy involves two valuable patients: a mother and her child.
A recent study by the Charlotte Lozier Institute confirms this. Based on state abortion statistics, researchers found 96 percent of abortions are for elective and unspecified reasons. Meanwhile, 2.5 percent of abortions were for the mother’s physical health, 1.3 percent for fetal abnormalities, .3 percent for rape/incest and .2 percent for complications that risked the mother’s life or a major bodily function.
Meanwhile, pro-life Republican lawmakers are working to expand support services to help parents and save unborn babies from abortion. This week, U.S. Congressional Republicans introduced the Providing For Life Act to expand child tax credits to unborn babies, create better workplace accommodations for parents and invest in community aid programs for pregnant and parenting families.
