A local music festival created and hosted by a group of Catholics in Kentucky raised over $50,000 for pro-life pregnancy resource centers.

“Bluegrass on (Lake) Beshear”, welcomed local artists to perform at the one-day event on October 7, 2023. This year, the event celebrated its 10th anniversary. Laura and Jeff Smith founded it in 2014, and in its first year, they raised $2600.

Over the past 10 years, the event has grown in size and has brought in more donors and outside support. Eight local Knights of Columbus councils volunteered at the event. The fundraiser raised $42,156, and the Knights of Columbus national Aid and Support After Pregnancy (ASAP) program contributed another $8000.

Organizers were surprised by the generosity of supporters, especially as the community has faced economic hardship.

“We are truly humbled by the generosity of regular people in this part of the state, which was devastated by the December 2021 tornado. Even though construction of our parish in Dawson Springs has just started, several of our supporters suffered severe damages, and everyone is struggling with high inflation. The whole community pulled together to create a beautiful musical event and raise impactful funds to help save babies’ lives and families’ hearts,” said co-host Jeff Smith.

The funds raised will be donated to various pro-life pregnancy centers across the state. These pregnancy centers provide a variety of services, including ultrasounds, adoption referrals, financial and material aid to mothers, and therapy for mothers who have had an abortion or a miscarriage.

In its ten-year history, “Bluegrass on (Lake) Beshear” has raised over $200,000.
