A recent report from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission has found that from June 2022 to March 2024, “reported elective abortions in Texas have consistently dropped from thousands per month to zero,” according to a Texas Alliance for Life news release.

The steep drop in elective abortions in Texas began after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022.

From January 2022, there were a total of 17,112 elective abortions committed in Texas, according to Texas Health.

In July 2022, there were 67 elective abortions committed, from August to March 2024, zero elective abortions committed in every month.

Of the abortions that have been performed in Texas during this time period, 102 were reported to be “medically necessary abortions,” according to the news release, which later noted:

No doctor has been prosecuted by a district attorney, sanctioned by the Texas Medical Board, or sued by the Attorney General. No pregnant woman has lost her life because of the provisions of Texas’ abortion laws, even with more than 360,000 live births in Texas each year.

According to the news release, the average number of abortions in Texas that have been reported to be “for medical necessity” post-Roe v. Wade is 4.9. This is an increase compared to the January 2022 through May 2022 average, which was 2.6.
