Texas has led the nation in protecting preborn Life with our bold legal approach. Are our Pro-Life laws actually working to protect the preborn? The answer is YES! While there is still more work to do to protect all preborn children and women from abortion, Pro-Life laws in Texas and across the country are working.
The Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion think tank, released data showing chemical abortions accounted for 63% of all abortions nationwide in 2023, a significant increase from 53% in 2020. The numbers demonstrate a concerning shift towards more accessible and less regulated abortion pill methods.

The anti-Life movement is waging its strongest war on preborn children ever, now using the abortion pill on the forefront. Traffickers easily transport abortion across state lines and providers often give it to women with little to no regard for her personal safety. For this reason, abortion has increased in the country overall.
Even in states like Texas that have outlawed elective abortion, women are tragically still obtaining abortions due to illegal abortion pill trafficking. This emphasizes that the fight for Life is not over. But our state Pro-Life protections are still saving thousands of lives.
Before the Texas Heartbeat Act, there were over 50,000 abortions in Texas annually. After the Heartbeat Act, abortion in Texas dropped by about half. Then, a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that Texas had nearly 10,000 more births than expected between April and December 2022, when babies saved by the Heartbeat Act would be due.
Also, following the Heartbeat Act, the downward trend of the birth rate in Texas reversed in 2021, making Texas the fourth leading birth rate in the nation.
What does this tell us? Pro-Life laws save Lives!
BUT illegal abortions are still happening in Texas, and abortions around the country in anti-Life states are being normalized and expanded.
We must hold accountable those who are trafficking abortion pills into Texas by passing stronger Pro-Life laws while we simultaneously work to win the culture so that abortion is not only illegal, but unthinkable.
