A newly released study of Protestant pastors across various denominations shows that those who shared their planned presidential vote prefer Republican nominee Donald Trump over Democratic nominee Kamala Harris by a margin of 26 points.
LifeWay Research Senior Writer Aaron Earls reported on Tuesday that of the pastors surveyed “who plan to vote and shared their preference, 50% say former President Donald Trump is their choice.”
Meanwhile, only 24% “back Vice President Kamala Harris and 23% are undecided,” Earls indicated.
LifeWay conducted the study between early last month and the first week of this month.
“The 2024 voting preferences are similar to those during the leadup to the 2020 election, when 53% of U.S. Protestant pastors said they planned to vote for Trump, 21% for Joe Biden and 22% were undecided,” Earls noted. “In 2016, 40% of pastors were still undecided in September, while 32% supported Trump and 19% planned to vote for Hillary Clinton.”
The New York Post’s Mark Kellner pointed out that, per the LifeWay survey, pastors in “Pentecostal, Baptist, Lutheran, Restorationist and nondenominational churches are among those most likely to say they’ll vote for Trump.” Meanwhile, “Harris gets support from Methodist and Presbyterian/Reformed pastors.”
Evangelical Christian author Troy Anderson told the Post that he believes Trump “stands for America’s Judeo-Christian foundations.”

The former president is “obviously not a perfect man by any stretch, but he wants to maintain the freedom and liberty that we’ve long enjoyed in America,” Anderson added.
Conversely, Anderson also told the Post that he believes Harris and her camp “wants to move us into this ‘Great Reset’ plan, some kind of a new global system.”

Catholic priests were not included in the survey.
Earlier this month, CatholicVote reported that according to a recent Pew Research Center poll, Trump is leading Harris “by five points among all Catholic voters, with 52% compared to her 47%.”
“Specifically among white Catholics, Trump has a significant 23-point lead, polling at 61% against Harris’ 38%,” CatholicVote’s report added. “Harris leads Trump by just over 30 points among Hispanic Catholics, meanwhile, with 65% of support compared to the Republican nominee’s 34%.”
The Pew survey also found Trump leading Harris among all Protestant voters, 61% to 37%.
CatholicVote continued:
Among white evangelical Protestants, Trump leads Harris by a whopping 66% points: 82% to 16%.
The same poll also found Trump ahead by 17 points with non-evangelical white Protestants. Harris, however, maintains a commanding lead among black Protestants – 86% to 11%.
