Police in India are searching for a teacher accused of raping a 13-year-old student and then forcing her to abort her unborn baby.
Indian news outlets report Rashid Anwar Khan, a government school teacher in Jashpur, Chhattisgarh, India, allegedly raped the girl in January on school grounds. According to police, Khan threatened the girl, and later forced her to have an abortion after finding out that she was pregnant by his abuse.
The girl recently told her parents what happened because she was suffering from medical problems, and her parents contacted the police, according to police.
Police said they are investigating the school and the hospital that performed the abortion. They also arrested a fellow teacher who allegedly helped Khan force the girl to have the abortion, according to the report.
Four other leaders of the school also were suspended in connection to the incident, the report states.
Khan allegedly ran away, and police are still searching for him.
