Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke told a voter to his face Monday that he would be ok with his mother aborting him the day before his birth.
O’Rourke, a former congressman from Texas, touted his radical pro-abortion platform during a campaign stop at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, according to Breitbart. Earlier this year, he made similar comments in answer to a question about late-term abortions in Ohio.
The question on Monday came from a member of the audience who appeared to support O’Rourke’s positions on solar power and energy but not abortion. He asked the politician to clarify the comments he made about late-term abortions in March in Ohio.
“Someone asked you specifically, specifically about third trimester abortions, and you said that’s a decision left up to the mother. So, my question is this: I was born Sept. 8, 1989, and I want to know if you think on Sept. 7, 1989, my life had no value,” the man asked.
“Of course I don’t think that,” O’Rourke responded. “And of course I’m glad that you’re here. But you referenced my answer in Ohio, and it remains the same. This is a decision that neither you, nor I, nor the United States government should be making. That’s a decision for the woman to make.”
O’Rourke tried to have it both ways with his response: first by confirming that the man’s life is valuable and then by arguing that his mother should have been allowed to abort him up until the day before his birth. But the answer cannot be both. Either a human being’s life is valuable and deserving of protection or it is not.
Most of the crowd let O’Rourke get away with his contradiction, cheering for him as he continued.

He said he is concerned about the “attack” on Roe v. Wade. He also slammed state abortion clinic regulations for closing facilities throughout Texas. However, he failed to mention that these abortion facilities closed because they could not meet basic health and safety standards.
“And I want to tell you some of the consequences of this. In my home state of Texas, thanks to these TRAP laws [abortion clinic regulations] that make it harder for providers to offer the full spectrum of reproductive care, more than a quarter of our family planning clinics have closed,” O’Rourke said.
He claimed the result is that women “cannot get access to a cervical cancer screening, or a family planning provider” or an abortion. He said maternal mortality rates are up, and women are dying because of the regulations. But even the liberal Washington Post recently debunked that claim.
O’Rourke concluded by doubling down on his position that abortions should be legal at any point in pregnancy.
“I don’t question the decisions that a woman makes. Only a woman knows what she knows, and I want to trust her with that,” he concluded to cheers from the audience.
The small audience may have supported O’Rourke, but polls consistently show that most Americans do not. A new Gallup poll, released in June, found 60 percent of Americans take a pro-life position on abortion, wanting all (21 percent) or almost all (39 percent) abortions made illegal.
Another poll from Harvard CAPS/Harris this spring found that just 6 percent of Americans said abortions should be allowed “up until the birth of the child,” while only 8 percent said they should be permitted up to the third trimester.
Not only does O’Rourke have a 100-percent pro-abortion voting record like the other Democrat presidential candidates, he also sponsored a radical pro-abortion bill that would have legalized abortions for basically any reason up to birth. He supports forcing taxpayers to fund abortions as well.
