Democrats in the Illinois General Assembly have introduced bills this session that would 1) create a $500 tax credit for abortion businesses, abortion-vulnerable women, the parent or guardian of a child, or a “qualified cohabitant” of another person to move to the state because of its radical abortion laws, and 2) amend state law to criminalize parents as child abusers if they do not support abortions for their minor children.
The proposed bills come as Governor J.B. Pritzker, a leading Biden surrogate, is set to rally on behalf of efforts to enshrine abortion on demand in the Nevada Constitution. Viewed by many as a future Democratic presidential contender, Pritzker is spending millions to repeal protections for babies in pro-life states and export Illinois’ extreme abortion policies around the country.

Under Pritzker, who has pledged to make Illinois an “oasis” for abortion on demand, the state’s abortion laws are among the most radical in the nation and abortion rates increased 13% from 2020-2021.
Kelsey Pritchard, state public affairs director for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, blasted Pritzker and the Democrats in a statement:
“Long gone are the days when even leading Democrats said abortion should be ‘rare.’ Now they are hell-bent on imposing abortion on demand with no limits through the second and third trimester, paid for by taxpayers, in every single state. The result is thousands more abortions in Democrat-led states – it’s not rocket science. Now Illinois Democrats, doing the bidding of the abortion industry which deems loving parents ‘barriers’ to their profits, may even go so far as to criminalize the right to protect our daughters from the physical and mental harms of abortion.
“In a pivotal election year, there couldn’t be a clearer contrast or choice between Republican leaders, who are working to save babies and serve moms by strengthening the vast pro-life safety net, and Democrats whose priority is more and more abortions. The Democrats’ push to increase the stream of abortion business from out of state is all the more disturbing considering nearly 70% of women who’ve had abortions report that they were coerced, unwanted or at odds with their values. The radical pro-abortion agenda hurts women and children and must be rejected at every ballot box.”
