Fresh off an upset victory in a special election in New York’s 26th district, the pro-abortion group EMILY’s List is already gearing up to send another pro-abortion extremist to Washington.
Yesterday, the organization announced their endorsement of Democrat Janice Hahn for the special election in California’s 36th District. Hahn is running against pro-life Republican Craig Huey to replace pro-abortion Rep. Jane Harman (D) who resigned in February to head the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars.
While the district trends blue, Huey may be able to pull off an upset and flip the seat for Republicans. In the initial balloting with multiple candidates, Huey came in a close second to Hahn with 22.6%. Despite being the Democratic favorite in a firmly blue district, Hahn only garnered 24% of the vote. The two candidates with the most votes move on to face each other in the special election.
Jimmy Camp from the Huey campaign told conservative news source Human Events that despite Democrats outnumbering Republicans in party affiliation by a margin of 45% to 27%, “another 20% of registered voters are ‘Decline to State’ [California ’s version of unaffiliated voters]. They really responded to Craig’s message.”
Huey’s strong showing has pushed EMILY’s List to enter the race. Along with their endorsement of his opponent today, the group lambasted Huey and claimed, “Republican self-funder Craig Huey would add ranks to a party currently waging war on American women and families and attempting to end Medicare as we know it.” (A completely off base assertion considering their candidate Janice Hahn supports both abortion-on-demand, which is opposed by a majority of American women, and Obamacare, which would ration care to the elderly and those with disabilities.)
Hahn has also received the backing of pro-abortion California Governor Jerry Brown and the infamously pro-abortion House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi
